Mission and Goals

BCS aims to offer practical Chinese language learning materials and effective teaching methods, enriched with the experience of Chinese culture and history. We believe learners thrive best when they are motivated, experience low anxiety, and have fun. Together with other organizations, we strive to build a diverse and vibrant cultural environment for the New River Valley.

Programs and Offerings

  • Language and Cultural Classes: We offer weekend and after-school Chinese language classes and a variety of cultural classes, including Chinese yo-yo, Chinese dance, and martial arts.
  • HSK Test Center: BCS has obtained the qualification to serve as a test center for the HSK Exam, an international standardized exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. We are the only HSK test center in southwest Virginia.
  • AMC Test: BCS hosts the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) for interested students and offers specialized programs to prepare them for these exams.
  • Enrichment Programs: Our enrichment programs include calligraphy, Kung Fu, yo-yo, and traditional Chinese dancing. We also host a guest speaker series on education, language learning, and various STEM topics in collaboration with local scholars.
  • Competitive Events: BCS sponsors contests in math and computer science to encourage academic excellence.

Teaching Team

BCS is proud to have a highly experienced and passionate teaching team that includes language educators, university professors, and graduate volunteers. Our team utilizes cutting-edge language teaching methods to cater to both heritage and non-heritage learners, helping them develop skills in Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Community Engagement

We strive to foster connections with the greater New River Valley community of Virginia through regular cultural activities and events. By promoting cultural understanding and appreciation, we aim to enrich the community’s cultural fabric.
